Default Fluent Radiation Problem

Hi guys,

I'm calculating a flare radiation and I think Fluent gives me wrong results. For a flame height of 6~8 meters, the radiation 100 meters away from the center should be a small value. But fluent's incident radiation is about 2 kW/m2. This is too strong, isn't it? The sun at noon has a radiation of 1 kW/m2.

I also plotted the radiation decay calculated using simplified equation and some other software, their results make more sense to me.

Has anyone met similar problem before? By the way, the environment temperature is 300K.

Thanks!
Qi

I'm using P1 as the radiation model.

Fuel is c2h4 with a mass flow rate about 0.5 kg/s and a temperature of 500K.

I've found the error. I was postprocessing "incident radiation" instead of "surface incident radiation" in wall fluxes

Hello Entropies and Haces, you mentioned Surface incident radiation in Wall fluxes is supposed to be used instead of Incident radiation in Radiation. Since P1 model is used, I wonder how you acquired Surface incident radiation in Fluent. For me, only when using DO model, will the Surface incident radiation appear.

Hello Haces,

I wonder how you acquired Surface incident radiation in Fluent with P-1 model. For me, only when using DO model, will the Surface incident radiation appear.
