Hi,

I have one 3 dimensional rectangular volume. I want to separate this volume into two volumes. The upper zone will have some different characters and the lower zone will have some different characters. I will specify the boundary between this two zones. Could anyone please help me how to specify the two zones in Fluent? or how to separate the two volumes from one volume??? I would really appreciate if anyone gives me some ideas on how to create different volumes from a single volume in fluent.I tried using the fluent 5 user manual but I didn't find much help. Thanks. Hi,

I think you can do this in 2 ways.

1) Define an interior boundary face btw. the zones in Gambit

2)or in Fluent, first mark one of the regions which you want to get at the end (go to Adapt/Region/Mark), and then go to Grid/Separate/Faces, select mark for options and separate.

Hi,

Thanks a lot.

I am able to create the two zones successfully, using fluent( Adapt/Region/Mark and then separate). But I have to put one time dependent boundary conditions at their interface. When I created the two zones I did not find any wall between them. I need one common wall between them so that I can put the time dependent boundary conditions at the interface.

I really appreciate your helps. Thanks once again.

hi,

I don't exactly understand , what u mean by two fluid zone with different characteristics? Do you mean you have a two-phase problem? then I think you can use VOF model for your case. But if you want to impose your own BC's at the two-phase interphase, the you'll probably need to write an UDF.

Hi, I have liquid-vapor interface. I am trying to simulate the soil remediation process by heating the soil through one heating pipe and removing the volatile matters through suction pipe. This simulation gave good result for the upper unsaturated portion of the soil. Now I am trying to include the lower saturated portion of the soil also. Actually in this saturated portion of the soil hot air is injected through sparging well. this hot well drives out these contaminants from the water to the upper unsaturated portion of the soil and this sparging acts only after a certain interval. It would be clear if I send you one of my earlier papers. I am sending you by e-mail.

maybe you can try to use interior BC, as a mentioned before, or try to put stg. like porous wall. There might be others to add on this, who are more experienced on this particular thing and be more clear than me.
