How do I send a job to the background in Unix

Can anyone please help me in sending the Fluent iterations to the background of the Unix environment. I have problem of people logging out the machine when my program is running.The software is in a server.

Ammu, give you executable comment with an & sign.
for eg: > run_fluent & and then you may logout. |

Actually, to keep the job running in the background after you log out you need to prefix your command with the 'nohub' command. Hope this helps.
