Hi, i'm trying to model a 2D external incompressible flow about a circular cylinder attached with two plates at the rear separeted by a distance of 0.86 of the cylinder diameter, the plate length equals the cylinder diameter. the Re is 8x10^4 (subcritical regime), and i want to model both an unconfined and a confined flow case. the confined flow case will be for the cylinder placed between two walls, the cylinder diameter is 47mm and the wall spacing is 300mm. can you guide me of what kind of mesh is best for this problem? what wall functions shall i use? which is best for the unconfined & the confined cases, the k-e or the RSM ot LES? what recommendations you suggest? i will highly appreciate your help? my problem is steady and i use Gambit for mesh generation. Any documents or pdf files you have and can support me? thank you alot in advance for your help.

Thanks, i had a look at that example before, but it's simple and does not include the details i want particularly constructing the boundary layer and setting the proper wall function. besides, i have a big trouble in building the mesh in Gambit because of the plates attached at the rear of the cylinder.

Try to use LES if you are comfortable with it. As you are trying 2D your meshing is simple. But 2D LES also has its limitations. But still the results should be better than k-e or RSM.

Probably you can get better results if you try to extrude your mesh in the third direction and make it 3D and then use LES.
