Hello guys,

I want to study a new wind turbine with vertical rotational axis.
I think, on the base of the shape of the rotor, that a sliding/dinamic mesh is necessary and I would like to start with a 2D simulation.

Obviously I don’t know the rotational velocity of the rotor at a specific wind velocity.
I think that inertia forces can be neglected at the moment, but I have to take into account the torque end power necessary to generate electrical energy.

The question is how can I setup this simulation?
Can I relate the rotational velocity of the rotating mesh containing the rotor to the torque generated by the wind and to the torque for electrical energy generation? How can I do this? How can I make the flow to move the rotor?

Do you think that this approach is correct?

Thanks in advance
vanni

Then,

I think to this formulation for angular velocity ω that must be applied by UDF.

ω t = ωt-1 + [Maer t-1 - M res (ωt-1)] / Irotor * Δt

where:

Maer= torque calculated on rotor due to flow
Mres(
ω) = law for torque due to electrical energy power generation
Irotor = rotor Inertia

Do you agree?Vanni
