Hi i am a first year phd student, new to using CFD and Fluent. I am supposed to be using it to simulate fluid flow heat transfer and mass transfer with reaction in a packed bed reactor. I am using v6.2.3
Here essentially is my problem; Taking it in the simplest way possible, i have made a fluid zone, a 4 by 1 rectangle, and in the middle of this i want to place a solid cirlce, in 2d, 3d later. I have defined the fuild as a fluid zone and the solid as a solid zone, but the mesh for the fluid zone goes through the solid zone, with a mesh on top for the solid zone. Basically when i come to just simulate the fluid flow there are velocities inside the solid zone, its as though the program is not recognising that i have defined the solid as a solid zone. If i can understand why this is happening and how to fix it so that the fluid flows round the solid, then that would be a great help. Thanks, Michael |

in gambit, have you split or divide your solid zone from the fluid zone?

No, i am just learning, i have just made a fluid zone then created a solid zone within it but i have not split the faces or anything. One thing i cannot do is boolean subtract the solid because i need it later for reaction and heat transfer.
I am trying to work out how to do it, but if i am stupid please explain how to do it |

Hey Ralf, Thanks i tried the split faces and it worked in 2D il just try it now with multiple bodies and then again in 3D, but i think you have just solved a problem i have had for a while now. I started using Comsol, and it is easier to use, but you have helped me a great deal today.
Thanks again |
