Hello,

I am a beginner, I am trying to model heat transfer through a porous medium.
I am modeling a cuboid in the design modeller, meshing it there and importing it into fluent.I am then modeling the fluid cell as a porous zone with given porosity and imposing the boundary conditions which include uniform heat flux on one surface and all the other surfaces adiabatic and velocity inlet boundary condition as well.
The heat flux does not seem to have any effect on the porous media, I am getting unform temperature contours through out the model.

Can some one tell me if I am doing the modeling right.

Thanks,
Harimighty.

Couple of related questions/comments:

1. What values of porosity are you using?
2. I have tried using porous media with a wall temperature too. Compared to such a case, my (limited) experience showed that using a heat source/sink workes better in porous media.

I had a somewhat similar problem in FLUENT, and could not get any satisfactory reply. Please refer to the following threads:
  • http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/fluent/48421-fluent-radiation-porous-media.html.
I'd like to hear whether and how it is indeed possible to treat a porous medium having two distinct temperatures (one for the fluid and one for the solid) and enabling heat transfer in it by convection (and also radiation and conduction).
PS: It would be better for you to post in the FLUENT forum than the present one.

mmunige is an unknown quantity at this point
Dear all,

I am modelling heat transfer through a porous medium in Fluent (from hot air to porous medium), have defined porous medium in fluid cell zone, resistance coefficients,
porosity, heat transfer coefficients since i am using non-equilibrium thermal model. this is transient 2D simulation. (a vertical column having porous material inside and top inlet for hot air and bottom outlet).

in start temperature distribution along the domain is fine and close to experimental values, but after 300 or 400 seconds temperature does not change or changes very little at all sections of domain and further it goes below the experimental values. I m using both fluid and solid properties as temperature dependent.
please guide me where i am doing wrong so I am not getting the uniform trend of temperature variation along the domain in whole simulation period.
please

Regards
