Hi everyone!
I'm working in Fluidized bed and polymer reaction by using Fluent 15 coupling with source term UDF. My grid cell is less than 1 million cells. I have a lot of condition i have to simulate so I'm looking for a new computer. At the moment,I can't decide which CPU i should go with. I also worry about price of CPU and Thermal Design Power. In my opinion,There are 3 option -AMD FX-9370 (4.40 up to 4.70 GHz) -Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) -Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W Please help me choosing the reasonable one and explain me why you choose that one. I have around 300-400$ to buy the new CPU. If you have the other option, please let me know. Thank you so much Tleja |

I don't think there is any argument here. You need to go with the LG2011 (5820K) option, because of the 4 memory channels vs. 2 for the AMD and LGA1150 options. The higher clock speeds of the other two won't remotely make up for the difference in memory bandwidth. Just make sure that you populate all four channels.

Thank you for your response Charles
I will firstly find about how much i have to pay for LGA 2011,mainboard,RAM DDR4, etc. By the way,I think i can't afford to buy LGA 2011 set. Nevertheless, I will list what i should add to my new computer (LGA1150,AM3+ set), and decide again. I need to know which's instruction of CPU i should concern if i use fluent. I will look for the CPU that is suitable for fluent instruction. Please give me information, I'm new in CFD and hardware field. Thank you so much Last edited by Tleja; February 16, 2015 at 14:45. |

Hi,
i am working on CFD with Fluent 15.0 for more than 2 year, i have 2 system: 1) AMD 8350-FX -- 16Gig 1866Mhz --Asus 99FX PRO R2.0 2)intel 4770 -- 16Gig 1600Mhz -- Asus Z87K intel obviously is a better choice , intel works better in CFD, and my intel system is working with CPU Cooler which was included in the box, and the temperature never goes over than 55C, but for AMD i had to buy a CPU Cooler For About 50$ (ThermalRight AXP-100), and when using all core temperature goes over than 70C. I can say my intel system is faster about 15 percent. I recommend you if your budget let you go for 5820K, if not go for 4790K which i think have great performance in CFD, its scour in CPU-benchmark is more than my 4770,you can go and check it yourself, but never go for AMD, For 9370 i know you need a powerful CPU Cooler , for example ENERMAX liquitech 240 which costs more than 100$, intel 4790K is about 320$ AMD 9370 is 224$ + CPU Cooler 100$ = 324$ AMD CPUs are 32nm which is a old technology but intel went to 22nm and right now in 14nm, i mean AMD CPUs consume electricity a lot with lower performance, http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i...vs-AMD-FX-9370 you check it there , hope my words will be useful for you, good luck |
