i am about to buy amd epyc 7551 engineering sample 32 core 1.6ghz-2.9 ghz as it ES so lower clock.
32 cores and 8 memory channels is very good. but i am afraid of its lower clock speed. any recommendations? thanks in advance |

You need to balance risk and reward.
The boxed version of this CPU currently retails for about 1200€. Used retail versions of Epyc 1st gen with 32 cores start at around 800$. In contrast to this, the cheapest 7551 ES in guaranteed working order -that I could find- is 300$. Once you factor in the cost for the rest of the system, the price difference is rather small. No idea if this works with ES CPUs, I did not follow the whole thread. But in general, 1st gen Epyc CPUs can be overclocked: https://forums.servethehome.com/inde...md-epyc.23422/ |
