Any suggestions about a high performance computing notebook, with Ubuntu installed?

Dear all,
I'm a newbie about openfoam. Nonetheless it seems that to fully exploit its capabilities, a linux based machine is "encouraged". Any suggestion about a high performance computing notebook, ubuntu provided? Many thanks, regards, giacomo

Ubuntu is good choice for a laptop computer. but first thing, do the following

Reduce the default grub load time

Grub gives you 10 seconds to switch between dual boot operating systems. This period is too much for me. When this setting is default, to start your computer with Ubuntu, you need to sit next to your computer and press enter. This takes some time. So ubuntu acceleration ways, the first thing to do about it is to change this opening time.

Run a terminal window to open the grub configuration file and enter the following command

sudo su

your root password

sudo nano / etc / default / grub

Change GRUB_TIMEOUT = 10 to = 2. This will change the boot time to 2 seconds. If you are using only Linux operating system on your computer, change the setting to = 0 so the grub boot loader menu will automatically select the Linux operating system and you will not need to choose.

First off, this is a very old post. Second, I am a bit puzzled by the notion of a "high performance notebook", that seems counter intuitive.

Unless you wish to compile many packages from source then you really only have two choices, either Ubuntu-based or RedHat-based. In my opinion Ubuntu is the better choice when it comes to a laptop. Linux Mint may be the best choice, but then it really mostly comes down to what your preferred desktop is.

For example:

If you run OpenFOAM.org rather than OpenFOAM.com then the installation process is dead simple (not very difficult to install on most systems, but this is the by far easiest way to install OpenFOAM).
