Hardware is only ever good or bad in the context of the applications you want to run. And to some extent, the price.
Tell us what you want to do with this workstation, then we can judge if it is a good fit. And if you want, I can also comment on the price. |

In that context, the hardware is ok
Do I think 1800$ is worth it? Let's look at some of the readily available prices. Gigabyte MD70: 400$ new (way cheaper options for similar boards exist, especially used) Xeon E5-2680v3: 2x160$ used CPU coolers: 2x25$ new 8x16GB DDR4-2133 reg ecc: 320$ used RX 570 8GB: 150$ new PSU: 100$ new Case: 100$ new 500GB SSD: 70$ new 4TB non-SMR HDD: 90$ new That's 1600$ in parts, with a lot of new components. Your call if you want to pay the difference to get it shipped fully assembled, but with all used components. Of course, availability and prices may vary in your region. So the workstation might turn out to be a really good deal. |

Xeon E5-v3 run memory at DDR4-2133 max. So the faster memory does not really add to the value of the workstation.

There is not much of a difference for support of your hardware on Windows and Linux. Use whatever you feel more comfortable with.
