Hallo to everyone ! I am starting my phD with a subject "Modelling of Integrated biomass gasification with IC engine" If anyone has any idea of selecting correct software for the above task please inform me ....

What do you want to focus on? The biomass gasification or the IC engine? Unless you are just doing an overview, you probably want different models and software.

You could look into Kiva. It is Fortran source code for IC engines that at one time was available from United States government labs (to approved users) for a nominal distribution fee. From my own experience, I would not recommend for doing biomass gasification - but in theory it could be adapted.

Have you looked at Openfoam?

Otherwise, the regular commercial CFD programs will all give you about the same experience. Relatively easy to squeeze out a generic solution, but peeling back the layers to get your hands on the inner workings is not easy. I have recently heard good things about Phoenics though.

As my old Ph.D. thesis advisor (from the '80s) recently told me "the primary objective of Ph.D. thesis research is to get a Ph.D.- not necessarily the research".

Thank you for the information. As I am only in the beginning of the research I cant say what exactly will include my ph.D , but I am thinking to break the simulation in 3 parts (gasification, gas cleaning and IC integration) I found that Fluent is doing a good job with Finite Element calculations (which I am going to include into phD). Also a Matlab perhaps will help, but i am not realy sure if the above software can be combined in each other. By the way I like your remark about the primary objective of the Ph.D. thesis
