About the requirement to register. Most spam these days is posted by programs that act as robots and post spam on forums they automatically search for on sites like google. A registration process that has some form of captcha validation test in order to ensure that the register is a human being will hopefully reduce this kind of spam.

No, I do not know any software that is directly designed to process messages posted in a forum. I was thinking that it shouldn't be very difficult to adopt e-mail software or some modules of it to process posted messages.

Well, I think the registration might help to increase the quality of the discussions. If I'm going to write some question or opinion, I should not be afraid to stand for it. If I do, my opinion is probably useless or stupid enough that even I'm ashamed of it. Larson, do not forget to think about the ease of administration for yourself too!
