In a natural convection problem in a close room which the walls are adiabatic and we have different temperatures between the floor and the roof we must except one or two airflow loops? Is there a numerical solution to define the number of the loops? Thank you in advance, Tom

Hi.

I remember for horizontal plate closure (you application is two plates with four walls) the natural convection itself can sometimes be unstable depending on specific condition (e.g. temperature difference, air property and so on). So, probably you need to first have a look at some fundamental book of natural convection see if your situation is stable. I remember people have calculated the natural convection between two co-axile circular pipes (horizontal placed), and make some publications. I think this problem may be more difficult than yours, so I think definitely your problem should have been investigated by numerical people. You can search the SCI or EI for article concerning this.

Hope it to be helpful.

Aspens,

Hi Tom

The problem of nature convection has many different steady and unsteady solutions. It depends of different values: temperature difference and the size of calculating area. I investigate the nature convection of cold water in a square cavity with adiabatic vertical walls and isothermal horisontal, so I can obtain the steady solutions with one, two and four main vortexes, and different oscillatory solutions.

If you want to study the numbers of vortexes in your problem than you have to use numerical solutions with your values of temperature difference and size of room.

Bye
