Does nybody have list of how much each cfd software cost.

For example what is the cost of one license of Fluent, CFX, Star Cd and other software.

star is a bit cheaper than that I think, more like $15k CFX is filthy cheap since ansys bought them although its a dying code so from a long term investment point of view its probably bad business

Is CFX really only that much, $2000? Wouldn't such an approach erode Fluent sales, which I'm sure Ansys won't want to do! Has anyone here (non-academic) actually bought CFX at that price?

Can you please state where the $2000 came from? Do you have it as a price quote from an Ansys distributor?

I think he may be getting confused with maintainance cost, I have heard from a few that CFX are selling perpetuals cheap i.e. something in the order of $10-20k up front then a low yearly maintainance cost, this could be the $2k

Could be. My feeling is that their CFX business has a problem. Nervousness in the CFX user/prospect base due to the Fluent acquisition may require them to reduce prices to maintain sales, but this may be interpreted as an attempt to get what they can for it before it goes end-of-life.

I am in need of guidance to start my career as cfd engineer. can anybody guide me?

As a basic introduction to the field, I think that Anderson's book on CFD is the best. I can't remember the exact title now, but maybe someone else on here can fill in the blanks.

Apart from that, it depends on what is your level of education and background. Are you in a BSc./MSc./Ph.D./ program? If you are, take some courses. Are you already in industry? If so read Anderson and convince your company to get a CFD license. It doesn't matter which one, they are all just TOOLS for solving problems in Fluid Mechanics.

In short, a simulation package could cost between $8,000-$18,000 (or £7,000-£15,000) a year depending on which supplier and which package you go for.

Although, the cost of not using simulation can be far far higher!
