Hello to the CFD community,

I hope everyone is well.

I want to know the different methods that you use to validate and verify your CFD results (especially the hand calculations that you use in your daily CFD life). In many of my CFD interviews I was asked this question and I have given the following answer:

1. I would search for any experimental results like wind tunnel results in the literature to support my results.
2. I would conduct mesh sensitivity study to eliminate the possibility of grid interfering with my solution.
3. I would see the post-processed results to see if the results look physical or feasible.

I know that each different application in CFD has different method for validation. I have given my answer from external aerodynamics perspective. If you have other perspectives please share your method of approach in this thread with the respective application (specifically any hand calculation methods).

Only after you become somewhat experienced with CFD you start to question them what is right and what is not? Some of you may be in lockdown, so you could take some time to answer this one.

Thanks

Vicky
