Converting Stencil notation to a Matrix

I am working on this theoretical problem where I have a finite difference equations derived. The consequence of this equation is a laplacian stencil:
0&0&-1&0&0\\ 0&0&0&0&0\\ -1&0&4&0&-1\\ 0&0&0&0&0\\ 0&0&-1&0&0\\ I have problems with converting this stencil in to a generalized matrix. Is there a method to do it other than writing seperate equation for each grid point? Thanks in advance |
