What is immersed boundary method

Would recommend reading how AMReX uses it.


Basic description without tech jargon :


If your body boundary is complicated, or it keeps changing, you need a method to correctly calculate the values of the flow hitting the boundary.


But since, the mesh doesn't conform to the boundary, that becomes difficult.


IBM is the solution to this problem.


It's useful for simulations where the boundary can keep changing : ex : ablation, fluid mixing, heart valve simulations, etc
