breznak is on a distinguished road
Hello,

I used OpenFOAM for two years and I just changed my employer recently. I participated OpenFOAM courses at ESI and I prefer to use it. But here colleagues use almost only Star-CCM+, maybe because here is automotive company. So, I am learning Starccm+ for two weeks.

But it looks like that the starccm has often problem due to license and once it happened something weird that I surely saved the setup and in several hours I could find that it was not saved and the old false setup was still there. When I open a huge mesh data, it takes too long time to save, even I changed some boundary conditions. And I personally think the trees(?) on left side are too unnecessarily complicated, so it makes the setup more unclearly.

Still I cannot understand but why a lot of companies use commercial programs even there is strong open source solver like OpenFOAM. Maybe because of geometry clean up? But here uses also ANSA for that.

They don't want to spend one month trying to converge something they can converge and get results in an afternoon using commercial code like starccm in this case.

Your post shows that you are just new to starccm and you are little bit confused about workflow.

Edited to add:

Do help him

Compressible nozzle flow - no problem for fluent but impossible with openFOAM?
