Could you please give me some references (books, papers) which deal with statistical concepts to describe turbulent flows including probability density functions and characteristic functions.

Thanks.

You might like to have a look at the lecture of Multi-Fluid Model of turbulence presented at VIII PHOENICS International Conference.

The model provides a method to calculate the probability density functions based on the descritization of conserved property space.

MFM is fully consisted with the most widely used Finite-Volume Methods and has been shown to be much less problematic for practical use than Monte-Carlo based approaches.

The number of related references can also be found there.
