The Relationship between the Courant Number and Residual

All CFD Expert, i have a question about the Relationsship between the convective Courant Number and the Convergence of the Residuals.

I do now a simulation of VOF(Light- und Heavefluid). If i reduce the timestep,the Residual decrease.

Can sombody explain the Relationsship between them?

Look at how the residual is calculated in the code and how it depends on time step or CFL.
I cannot say anything more without knowing the definition of the residual in your code.
