I am looking for experimental or numerical benchmarks for cfd code validation, like flow over NACA-0012. Some of the standard results are from AGARD and GAMM. Can anybody tell me where I can get these data?

There are several ways to test CFD codes. first you may test the code's structure (numerical model):
Using circular cylinder (2-D) or sphare (3-D) to run low-speed inviscid flow. Then look at the contour plots. Does the code give you symmetric flow parten in the upper and lower sides? More importantly, the up-stream and the down-stream? (Believe me, not all code can pass this test.) From there you can determine if your numerical structures (boundary conditions, bugs, numerical dissipation treatments, etc.) are Okay or not. If the code does not give reasonable symmetric flow in upstream/downstream, it is possibly because of an bad wall boundary condition, or too much numerical dissipation. If you don't get symmetric flow in upper/lower sides. there may be problems in you far-field boundary conditions. Then you can test the math model: Using any smooth shaped body with a sharp trailing edge. Run inviscid flow and look at the total pressure distribution. You know what you should get from the code. The last step is to test the physical model (viscous effects, ability to catch separation. if compressible code, ability to catch sharp shock waves, etc.) You may find some test data to compare with. For test cases, you may try to get "Test cases for inviscid flow field method" by Yoshihara and Sacher, AGARD-AR-211. (1985).

For test cases, you may try to get "Test cases for inviscid flow field method" by Yoshihara and Sacher, AGARD-AR-211. (1985). and "Airfoil RAE-2822-pressure distributions and boundary layer and wake measurements" by Cook, McDonald, and Firmin, AGARD-AR-138, (1979).

Hi,Li!
Could you send me the reference “Test cases for inviscid flow field method” AGARD-AR-211? I can't achieve this paper from NATO. Thank you! email: cuishuxin1234@yahoo.com.cn |
