Is there any specific criteria for choosing the deltaT (time step) while simulating solids (seabed in my case) in openFOAM like the CFL criteria for fluids?

Thanks and Regards,
Mena

Hi Mena,

It depends on whether the time integration scheme used in the solid solver is implicit or explicit. If implicit, the solid solver is conditionally stable and any reasonable time-step can be chosen. If explicit, the solid solver requires that the time-step obeys the standard CFL criterion i.e. the Courant number needs to be less than 1.0.

Of course, the choice of time-step also depends on your desired temporal resolution/accuracy. This equally applies to both implicit and explicit approaches.
