Dear Foamers,

I am now using waves2Foam to generate a regular wave (stokes second wave theory). The wavelength is 2m, Period is 1.1s, wave height is 0.16m. The setup of the numerical tank is shown in Fig.1. WP1 and WP2 are two wave probes to monitor the wave elevation.

The Time series of wave elevation for WP2 is shown in Figure2.
To my knowledge, the regular waves will propagate a entire wave length after a single period. So it takes about 5.436/2*1.1=3s for waves to reach the position at wave probe WP2. However, figure2 shows that the still water at the position WP2 starts to oscillate at about 2s.

I concern about the time series of the waves, especially the propagating time. So could anyone tell me the reason for such a phenomenon?

Appreciate any help!!

Hi,

I suggest that you remove the FPSO and do a test in pure wave tank without any obstacles. Then you could identify where is the problem.

Best,
Hao

Hallo Xiantao,

The first couple of waves do not behave as waves propagating with constant form, so I would not be surprised, if they behave somewhat different from your expectations.

E.g. the energy in the wave propagates slower than the wave itself, so what is the effect of that for the first couple of waves? I am pretty sure that you can find some literature on that topic.

Kind regards,

Niels

Hello!Excuse me,i am a beginner of waves2Foam. i want to use Stokes second order wave now. but i have encountered a mistake now. i would like to ask how your Stokes second order wave is used . can you send me a setup map of your Stokes second order wave . thank you very much.

my error : constructing : stokesFirstProperties (used by another theory)
constructing : stokesSecondProperties
0.05 0.0858
From function void stokesSecondProperties :: set (Ostream & os)
.....
The validity of stokes second order is violated.
