Hi,

I'm following the instructions to install OpenFOAM 2.3.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as give in http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...u#Ubuntu_14.04 since I now need to use OpenFOAM. The OpenFOAM webpage http://www.openfoam.org/download/ubuntu.php is much easier to follow but does not list Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, which is why I'm not using it.

But when I get to step 4 to download and unpack OpenFOAM nothing seems to happen. Perhaps I'm not doing something which is obvious since I'm new at Linux. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done or is that a video that I can follow?

Thanks

I suppose that you did execute tar xfz on the OpenFOAM tarball, you've downloaded, right? If nothing appears on screen, when running tar, it is generally a good sign. List the directory (ls) and you'll see the extracted data form that tarball.

If you don't know much about Linux, do yourself a favor and learn the basics, otherwise you'll have a really hard time ahead of you.

Any idea when 14.04 will be added to this list http://www.openfoam.org/download/ubuntu.php as it is the easiest to get OpenFOAM up and running - for me at least.

That's basically up to OpenCFD. Just install that Ubuntu version and try to compile OpenFOAM on it. Usually it works, even though the compiler is newer.

Jens, are you saying just to install OpenFOAM 2.3.0 following the instructions at http://www.openfoam.org/download/ubuntu.php for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS? Because when I do step 2 (sudo apt-get update) I get the messages in the terminal shown in the image.

I appreciate the assistance.

Hello siw,

I am no expert on installing but the error will vanish if you change the line starting with VERS=.... to
VERS=saucy

no spaces!!!

it does not help installing openFOAM though. I use the git method and that works, building from sources.
found this link:

hope this helps

I finally got OpenFOAM 2.3.0 installed on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS following the instructions at http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...u#Ubuntu_14.04. Then followed the Getting Started instructions at http://www.openfoam.org/download/source.php and the lid-driven cavity tutorial worked

My intention is to apply a modification to a LES SGS model, but that's a long way off. Is there a video that shows other users applying their own models to OpenFOAM, since customizing OpenFOAM is one of its advantages?
