What might be causing the problem? Other than that, there seems no additional problems. I am installing in /opt/OpenFOAM directory as root by the way. Also I get a few warnings during compilation, are they important to take care of? Thanks in advance.

Quick answer: Step-by-step installation instructions for the versions you stated are given here: https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/I...u#Ubuntu_16.04

Compiling OpenFOAM as root is a bit of a risk, because if you mistype a command, you risk damaging your complete Ubuntu installation, so be veeeery careful!
