locutus is on a distinguished road
Hi Folks,

I recently followed the install instructions: https://openfoam.org/download/8-ubuntu/

Everything went smoothly right up until the last step where I entered what was given in the instructions into the terminal.

cd $FOAM_RUN
cp -r $FOAM_TUTORIALS/incompressible/simpleFoam/pitzDaily .
cd pitzDaily
blockMesh
simpleFoam
paraFoam

Here's the last chunk of the run:

"

SIMPLE solution converged in 287 iterations

streamLine streamlines write:
seeded 10 particles
Tracks:20
Total samples:12040
Writing data to "/home/maritza/OpenFOAM/maritza-8/run/pitzDaily/postProcessing/sets/streamlines/287"
writeObjects writeObjects(kEpsilon:G) write:
End

Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 811: _dl_close: Assertion `map->l_init_called' failed!
maritza@maritza-K55DR ~/OpenFOAM/maritza-8/run/pitzDaily $ paraFoam
FATAL ERROR: The official reader module for OpenFOAM data does not exist on
your system. This means that the version of ParaView you are using was not
compiled with OpenFOAM, or distributed with a packaged version of OpenFOAM.

For information on packaged versions of OpenFOAM/ParaView and compilation of
OpenFOAM/ParaView, see https://openfoam.org/download

Alternatively, you might be able to view your OpenFOAM data with the reader
module provided with ParaView by running:
paraFoam -builtin

"

Can anyone offer a solution?

Just use the native reader. If you aren't happy with the paraview that comes with your system, grab a binary install from the kitware website. This becomes especially useful for older LTS systems.
I have a parafoam (all lowercase) that simply does a touch on log.foam and uses that for paraview.

EDIT: added a small list of pro/cons of plugins - do-i-really-need-the-paraview-plugins
