Default Hi, can the boundary conditio

can the boundary condition patch area be
smaller than the block face area in blockMesh?
I'm simulating a free jet and it would be in some
occasions convenient to use just a single block mesh
instead of building the mesh from several blocks in order to give the inflow bc.
