As I wrote, OF cannot compute "2d". So you need to give a thickness to your 2d model. Just extrude your surfaces, and mesh volumes. Then follow the tutorial for knowing what kind of BC you need to set front and back surfaces (which are your 2d surface)

helo max ,
few days back i converted my 2D fluent mesh into OF by using command fluentMeshToFoam and it is converted succesfully . and in checkMesh it is ok . it had given the patch type empty for the 3rd direction automatically . |

you can use fluentMeshToFoam to convert your 2D mesh from gambit into 3D mesh into OpenFOAM

I meant pictures to see how you mesh looks like, etc...
I would also try to extrude it for having 3d domain, and then import it in OF for excluding an issue because of 2d
