Hi
I am trying to simulate 2D flow around a cylindrical hole. How am I supposed to create the mesh for 2D flow considering the fact that OpenFOAM only works with 3D geometries? I am confused as to how to proceed once I am done with creating the geometry in Salome. Or is there any other better meshing software that can deal with this 2D- 3D conversion?

This geometry is such simple that you best work with blockMesh.

Thanks for the reply.
I can use blockMesh for a square hole. But I guess it consumes too much time if the hole is a cylinder. I posted the picture to show that I have a 2D mesh right now and wish to take it to a 3D extruded figure so that it works with OpenFOAM.
Consider that I have a Cylindrical hole geometry and a similar type of mesh as shown in the figure above. How do I proceed?

There is an arc function which supports circles / cylinders. Without too much searching find mesh examples for flow past cylinders, which you may change to let it fit your demand.

If you don't find one I may post an example.
