I am having difficulty in optimizing the mesh as I would like. In particular, the mesh is too refined where there are two neighboring surfaces, even if they have the normal facing opposite.

Referring to the attached image, the surfaces C and D are refined because they are close to each other.

The same thing happens for surfaces A and B, because they are close to each other, even if there is no fluid volume between the surfaces, and the have opposite normals.

Is there a way to prevent refinement between surfaces A and B?

Thanks!

Not quite sure how your problem arises. You can define the level of refinement on surfaces in regions, etc, by yourself in snappyHexMesh. I have not yet had issues with automatic refinement that I did not decide on myself. You migh want to consider uploading your snappyHexMeshDict.

Well you have a refinementBox and 4 regions of a motorbike that are refined. You might want to adjust the dict file according to your case. User guide helpd here.
