Hello Foamers,
I am working of a 2D project containing a very particular airfoil. It has a curvature on its middle. As i am on a research suject, I need to proceed a mesh convergence around it. My problem is : I am trying to keep my close wall layers and decrease the size of the close wall cells. But the curvature of my profile seems difficult to mesh for snappy. See the figures attached. Has any of you any idea how to solve this ?? I tried to change : minThickness, nGrow, nSolveIter, nCellsBetweenLevels, resolveFeatureAngle without any succes up to now. And also to use the surfaceFeatureExtract function as well. Thank you for your help ! Magi Please find my snappyHexMesh bellow : Code:

Hi, interesting case.
I have not seen cellsBetweenLevels used like that (this high) but it seems legit. The approach seems to make some troubles there. Maybe another one helps: try using refinement based on distance to the stl. You can prescribe level-distance pairs and I expect that to work more reliably. Check here https://doc.cfd.direct/openfoam/user.../snappyhexmesh at 5.4.5. It should work for stl regions and refinement regions alike. |

Hey !
Thank you for your answer ! Sorry, I forgot to mention it but I already tried this solution. It is indeed solving my local problems by refining the mesh in the difficult area... buuuut, it suppress all the layers that I had before. Please fine the image attached. In snappy's log is written : Layer addition iteration 1 -------------------------- Determining displacement for added points according to pointNormal ... Detected 0 points with point normal pointing through faces. Reset displacement at 0 points to average of surrounding points. ... Detected 49302 illegal faces (concave, zero area or negative cell pyramid volume) Extruding 112 out of 31541 faces (0.355093%). Removed extrusion at 0 faces. Added 256 out of 220787 cells (0.115949%). ... That's the reason why I changed my mesh solution... Any idea ? |

The airfoil edge looks pretty bumpy, which probably prevents the layer generation. The features () dictionary might help in this case. Specify the edge refinement there with the same level as surface refinement.
Anyhow, looking closely, also the distance calculation appears weird in this region, can you share the stl file? |
