Hey Zinedine,
Thanks for your quick reply!
This is what I get when I do checkMesh

Create polyMesh for time = 0

Time = 0

Mesh stats
points: 167512
internal points: 0
faces: 331555
internal faces: 164045
cells: 82600
faces per cell: 6
boundary patches: 8
point zones: 0
face zones: 0
cell zones: 0

Overall number of cells of each type:
hexahedra: 82600
prisms: 0

tet wedges: 0
tetrahedra: 0
polyhedra: 0

Checking topology...
Boundary definition OK.
Cell to face addressing OK.
Point usage OK.
Upper triangular ordering OK.
Face vertices OK.
Number of regions: 1 (OK).

Checking patch topology for multiply connected surfaces...
Patch Faces Points Surface topology
INLET_TOP 59 120 ok (non-closed singly connected)
INLET_BOTTOM 59 120 ok (non-closed singly connected)
OUTLET 118 238 ok (non-closed singly connected)
WALL_STRAIGHT_TOP 324 650 ok (non-closed singly connected)
WALL_STRAIGHT_BOTTOM324 650 ok (non-closed singly connected)
WALL_WAVY_BOTTOM 713 1430 ok (non-closed singly connected)
WALL_WAVY_TOP 713 1430 ok (non-closed singly connected)
frontAndBackPlanes 165200 167512 ok (non-closed singly connected)

Checking geometry...
Overall domain bounding box (1.688336 -3.224465 -0.1007603) (9.43028 3.224465 0.1007603)
Mesh (non-empty, non-wedge) directions (1 1 0)
Mesh (non-empty) directions (1 1 0)
All edges aligned with or perpendicular to non-empty directions.
Boundary openness (3.079742e-18 -5.752289e-17 -6.754386e-19) OK.
Max cell openness = 2.319659e-16 OK.
Max aspect ratio = 4.989274 OK.
Minimum face area = 4.319345e-05. Maximum face area = 0.00416419. Face area magnitudes OK.
Min volume = 8.704371e-06. Max volume = 3.492038e-05. Total volume = 1.330074. Cell volumes OK.
Mesh non-orthogonality Max: 33.49753 average: 9.974007
Non-orthogonality check OK.
Face pyramids OK.
Max skewness = 0.4789947 OK.
Coupled point location match (average 0) OK.

Mesh OK.

End

I want to know what are units of my mesh. This is the bounding box dimensions of checkMesh Overall domain bounding box (1.688336 -3.224465 -0.1007603) (9.43028 3.224465 0.1007603). Now the numbers here are in m or mm? The geometry that I had created in solidWorks was initially in mm. I'm asking this because my boundary conditions will change accordingly.
Thanks!!
Ram

Hi Ram
As far as I understand the output is in m.

Hi again
Have you visualised your mesh using paraFoam for a quick check
just to be sure.

I have checked in paraview as well...The numbers are correct. But I'm not sure about the units...It is showing 9.43 but whether it is mm or m I dont know

i am validating one paper, i asked my friend to send mesh from ansys. its a 2D geometry. fluentMeshToFoam temp.msh i got the following

dimension of grid: 0
Creating shapes for 3-D cells
Building patch-less mesh...done.

for a trial i used icoFoam. my solver is buoyantBoussinesqSimpleFoam.
in the constant folder i found boundary file that consists of only zero value.
what should i do ?

hi friends,

I am trying to convert .msh file to openfoam using both fluentMeshToFoam and fluent3DMeshToFoam. But I am getting an error in both the cases.

fluentMeshToFoam - Found end of section in unknown
,Embedded blocks in comment or unknown:

fluent3DMeshToFoam - Do not understand the characters:
on line 1

please can anybody let me know how to solve this

Thank you

is your ".msh" mesh file in binary or ascii format?

That seems to be the problem, as far as I know your ".msh" file should be in ASCII format.

Execute your command
Code:
fluentMeshToFoam 1.msh
from the base directory i.e., from:

Code:
syn@syn-Lenovo:~/solids4foamphilip/tutorials/nonLinGeomSolidFoam/plateHole$
Regards,
Ricky

oh cool, then will try it. Thank you kera.

Yining Song syn1993530, I also experienced the same problem like you. One should be in the base directory to run the solver, not in any folder like 0 or constant or system.
