Dear FOAM'ers

It is a pleasure to announce that the isoAdvector algorithm has now been integrated into the newest release of OpenFOAM from ESI-OpenCFD.

The algorithm has been integrated into a new solver called interIsoFoam, and a number of test cases - including both pure advection and coupling with the p-U solver - are included. Further, the code has been improved in several ways:

  • Consistent behaviour with more than one outer corrector. Running with nOuterCorrectors > 1 can increase accuracy of nonlinear terms but will also increase computational cost.
  • Support for subcycling (nAlphaSubCycles). Whether subcycling is an advantage will depend on the specific case and will require some experimentation.
  • Should now be more stable, especially when running in parallel due to clean up of the functions isoCutFace::cutPoints and isoCutFace::quadAreaCoeffs.
  • Option for smoothed gradient based interface orientation in reconstruction step (gradAlphaNormal = true). Guarantees piecewise planar interface and seems to improve results on triangular prism meshes. The isoAdvector advection step is not changed by this option.
  • Optional writing out of isoFaces.obj, of surface cellSet and heuristically bounded cellSet.
  • General code clean up and refactoring.

This information is relevant for people who downloaded the isoAdvector code from github.com before 8 August 2017. Up to the release of isoAdvector in OpenFOAM-v1706, I made a number of improvements to the code, some of which should make it more stable.

See release note here for details:
http://openfoam.com/releases/openfoa...cs-isoadvector

I ported these changes to the github.com/isoAdvector version 30 June 2017 and went on holiday. Unfortunately, the new updates broke the compatibility with older OpenFOAM versions, which resulted in compile errors. These should now be fixed with the latest release on github from 8 August 2017. If you encounter further compilation problems with OpenFOAM-2.2.0 or newer, please don't hesitate to let me know.
