Hello,

This is my first thread in this forum and I would like some guidance about my first serious OpenFOAM project and how to set-up the case.

As the title suggests, I'm aiming to model conjugate heat transfer across a metallic foam heat exchanger whose geometry looks something like this:



My issues with this case are the following:
  • Geometry: I have a .obj file of the unit cell with no thickness and I'm unsure which could be the best way to to a) give it thickness and produce a lattice from the unit cell b) convert the .obj to produce a valid STL file for meshing with snappyHexMesh.
  • Solver: By what I have been reading I think that the correct solver to use is chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam, is this true? If it is, where could I find a good tutorial to get started with this solver?
  • Boundary conditions: This is a major issues as I cannot find a definitive answer as to how should I set the boundary conditions in this case.
  • File and Folder Structure: Finally, this is a more general question because I have not worked with a complex 3D simulation before and would like to know what would be the correct file and folder structure in this case.

In a more general sense, what I am looking for is guidance into how to set-up the case in order to obtain meaningful results coming from the perspective of a user with little experience.
