Solving convection-diffusion problems in spherical coordinates

Hello to all,

I would like to solve a convection-diffusion scalar transport equation on the surface of a sphere (2D problem). The problem should have symmetry with respect to the main meridian.

Are OpenFOAM fvm and fvc operators able to work with spherical coordinates? If so, how can this be achieved?

I dont think so. Since the operators are different in spherical coordinates it is (I dont know for sure, I just assume that by my knowledge) the implementation has to be different. But you can try to transform your equations into cartesian coordiantes and try it that way. Depending on your time its probably worth it.
