Hello everybody,

We are trying to set up the 2d case of a cylinder that oscillates harmonically in one axis and solve it with interDyMFoam.

We believe that the best way to do it with a dynamic mesh would be using 'displacementComponentLaplacian' in 'componentDisplacementMotion' (working in OF2.3.1). That would be the first question, as perhaps another option is best.

The thing is that while in the documentation says 'The boundary displacement is set as a boundary condition on the pointDisplacementX pointScalarField.', when running the case, in seems that not only the file 'pointDisplacementX' is needed, but some additional files such as 'pointLocation' and others related to cells are required, for which we haven't found examples in the tutorial (not even sure about what's the point of file 'pointLocation')

Does somebody have an example using 'displacementComponentLaplacian' in 'componentDisplacementMotion' in OF2.3, or perhaps a better option for setting up a cylinder that oscillates harmonically in one axis and solve it with interDyMFoam.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Luis,

I am working on a similar problem. Have you found the solution to your problem regarding the settings of displacementComponentLaplacian?

There is a movingCone case located under tutorials/incompressible/pimpleDyMFoam which uses velocityComponentLaplacian. Have you tried that to see if it can be used?

Best wishes,

Yuanchuan Liu

Send a message via ICQ to makaveli_lcf
Use "applyPointLocation off;" to skip that setup.
nimasam and Tobi like this.
