Hi,

I need to simulate this case:

wing with aileron, aileron deflect using dynamicMesh (displacement Laplacian)

deflection of aileron cause body to roll and then yaw.

Can OF's 6Dof simulate this case? The roll torque due to the aileron deflection will give roll and hence OF will calculate and rotate the wing (full body rotation?) and then similarly for yaw too.

Is this possible in OF? Is there a good example to follow?

I have run some 6DOF cases. Do you have some illustrations on what the motion would look like so that maybe I can provide some more detailed help?

Thanks erickmartinez!

As shown attached, I'm trying to simulate a wing (but w/o body) with incoming velocity. The aileron on one side of the wing will deflect, achieved using dynamicMesh thru mesh deformation. The aileron deflection will cause roll and yaw.

So I hope to predict what happens to the wing when the aileron deflect. How will the wing roll and yaw?

As I hope to use OF to simulate and find out what happens.

Can OF do this?

Certainly you can use it using the 6DOF OpenFOAM offers. Some of the explanations are here: https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/P...dyMotionCoeffs

I imagine you can restrict certain translations and rotation of the wing and perhaps using the forces function you can get the moments to calculate the roll and yaw? The 6DOF also outputs angular velocity so maybe that would be of use to you as well. I am a little unsure of that part but I believe that could be of help. https://www.openfoam.com/documentati...es-forces.html

Hi erickmartinez,

Thanks for the recommendations. I will give it a try!
