I notices that you use in your example: solverLib "libtetDecompositionMotionSolver.so", but I've only got: solverLib "libtetDecompositionMotionSolvers.so", (not the extra "s"). So, besides the name did you also changed the contents of this motion library, which could possibly cause my problems? Btw, I assume that solverLib is used by moveMesh, but that dynamicFvMeshLib is used to really solve the flow with icoDyMFoam. Is this true? Further, I really want to solve this problem soon, since apparently no user of the standard OpenFOAM 1.3 is able to solve flows with oscillatingFixedValue boundary conditions, which can be applied to a lot of fun applications.... It's worth it - I have a simple oscillating cylinder test case that works beautifully with Hrv's latest version of the code. I too had some difficulty with the compilation (on RHEL AMD64) - I can maybe help out if you get stuck.

Jasak's sources (from a month ago, I cannot reach his release site for the latest sources??). The oscillatingFixedValue boundary condition seems to work in combination with icoDyMFoam, but I have to test it further using proper cases. But it remains strange that using the standard OpenFOAM-1.3 sources, the oscillatingFixedValue boundary condition does not work. I'll keep you posted. Regards, Frank __________________ Frank Bos

For example, I found that using icoDymFoam to model the flow around a stationary cylinder, with a stationary mesh and a simple fixed wall BC, gave me junk - just potential flow around the object. Hrv's new version of the code fixes some fundamentals, and all is then well.

I'll refine later on, once I've worked out how to morph just part of the mesh (that bit immediately around the cylinder), rather than the whole mesh; the mesh movement takes rather a lot of CPU otherwise, which is not great for lengthy transient calculations. For the movement, I've started off enforcing a sinusoidal motion, using motionU through some additional code that I call on each time step in icoDyMFoam. Search for motionU on the message board. It's easy to get the feedback from the flow, ie. to make it an FSI simulation, but I'm taking one step at a time. Note that the current version of OF seems to have a problem with wall BCs - again check the messages. You'll need Hrv's development version for it to work correctly. As for dynamicMeshDict settings, I've used the following to date: dynamicFvMeshLib "libtetDecompositionMotionSolvers.so"; dynamicFvMesh dynamicMotionSolverFvMesh; twoDMotion yes; solver laplaceTetDecomposition; diffusion quadratic patchEnhanced; frozenDiffusion off; As ever, dynamic mesh movement with OF is like white water rafting - strap yourself in for a bumpy ride, but it's worth it in the end! I'm working on a similar problem. First I will simulate an oscillating 2d cylinder at large amplitudes (translation and rotation). I succeeded in version 1.2, but in 1.3 it is almost working. Than I want to simulate a 2d flapping wing wich is also capable of passive deformation, so fluid structure interaction. Finally I want to extend this problem to a moving 3d wing. These problems are rather ambitious, but we'll see how far I get. What are your amplitudes, frequencies and timesteps? If you are using Crank-Nicholson, what CN coefficient did you use, 0.5, 1.0 or something in between? Regards, Frank __________________ Frank Bos

You can, of course, throw out the actual structures solution and just use the code to run the fluids side if you know the boundary deformation. Some of this will be presented in my lecture at the 5th International Congress of Croatian Society of Mechanics in Trogir, Croatia 21-23/Sep/2006. There is also a paper, but without too much detail (it's more general OpenFOAM and FSI stuff).
