I have a few OpenFOAM datasets that have a peculiar feature in them that I could use some clarification on.
According to the documentation, every face must have an owner in the "polyMesh/owner" file. However, not every face has a neighbor in the polyMesh/neighbour" file. However, in the datasets I have the number of faces listed in the "owner" file doesn't appear to be complete: some faces are listed in the "neighbour" file but NOT in the "owner" file. Is this a bug? Or is this some undocumented feature? Could somebody please explain to me what I should make of this? Thanks. |

Upon reading my message I realized I needed to clarify one point: what I mean is that not every cell is referenced in the owner file.
Is there any restriction on this being the case? |

Hello amtri,
in my opinion there is no need to worry. This happens every time when a cell is handled which faces are already owned by previously handled cells. See attached picture: At the time M is "constructed" , all its faces are already owned by other cells. This is why cell M is not found in the owner file. The whole thing depends on cell index order .... Bandfrosch |
