Use OpenFOAM to simulate Knocking combustion in IC engine

Hello all，
I'm trying to use engineFoam to simulate knock combustion. I have learnt that it use XiFoam to simulate combustion progress, but it seems not able to simulate end mixture auto-ignition. Could any one tell me whether there is a way to simulate knock combustion by engineFoam?

Hi!

Engine knocking involves some very complicated chemistry with hundreds (perhaps thousands) of species interacting. This even for surrogate fuels. Simulating it means this has to be respected, something which is way beyond the capability of combustion models like XiFoam.

A straight forward method would be to include all these species and a mechanism, perhaps heavily reduced. You could look at sprayEngineFoam, but remove the lagrangian spray part. This will require massive computational power and is probably still out of reach.

A lot cheaper way could be to transport a fictive "ignition specie" with a source term coming from tabulated ignition delays using a detailed surrogate fuel mechanism. Look into the details of the ECFM-3Z or ECFM model how they do it (Colin et al). Prepare for digging into the OpenFOAM code and doing substantial programming to achieve this.
