Hi all,

I'm still very new to everything (operating system, OpenFOAM and ParaView, even fluid dynamics)

I'm working on a project accessing a RANS turbulence model, the control is a LES case that has been ported to OpenFOAM, there are about 50 million points.

I am currently trying to plot Q-criterion contour for the LES case, my computer uses Ubuntu 18.04, a Xeon E3 1246V3 and 32G of RAM.

I have used is from OpenFOAM 7 from openfoam.org, not installed by building from source.

When I try to load the velocity data along with internal mesh, I get the following error

I/O : uncollated
new cannot satisfy memory request.
This does not necessarily mean you have run out of virtual memory.
It could be due to a stack violation caused by e.g. bad use of pointers or an out of date shared library
Aborted (core dumped)

On the other hand, I was able to achieve what I had aimed for by loading internal mesh first, then loading the velocity data. But the memory I use is still around 28G. This concerns me because my friend was able to achieve the same result using a MacBook pro with likely a maximum of 16G RAM.

I have searched around online and on the forum and came to the conclusion that this may be due to OpenFOAM not built from source?

So I have tried to follow the instruction from kitware and build ParaView from source, but I feel embarrassed to say this, I could not follow the instruction!

Please point out all the technical errors and inaccuracy in my description and ideas. And any additional information that may be required to troubleshoot this issue

so in conclusion,

1. Is it correct that this is indeed a problem with how ParaView is installed?
2. Is there a guide that is easier to follow for a novice user to build ParaView from source?

Thanks in advance!
