Hi everybody:
I create a body in solidworks, but when i import it into pointwise (no matter what kind of format,IGS,STL,..),holes will be disappeared and a new circle is created
What is wrong?
Thank you very much

From the first image, it looks like Pointwise is not able to import the trim surfaces correctly.

This is usually caused by an improper Model Size.
See the menu: File, Properties.., Model Size.

Typically, Model size should be set to a power of 10 (10, 100, 1000, etc) that is close to the maximum "size" in your model. Basically if you were to fit a bounding box around your CAD model AND the (0,0,0) origin point, what is the length of the longest edge of this box.

Which version of Pointwise are you using?

Can you post the actual CAD file so I can debug it?

PW17R4 is not a valid version. The first line in the help about box lists the version I am looking for.

That said, I am able to load the file successfully using Pointwise V17.3R5 (just released today). However, The NCR reader in Pointwise V17.3R4 failed reading this file.

The units specified in the file is Meters.
The extents of the geometry is around 17 inches (0.5 meters).

Using V17.3R5 and this info, I loaded the file successfully using:
  • Model Size = 1000.0
  • Units = Inches
and
  • Model Size = 10.0
  • Units = Meters

I have uploaded a ZIPPED PW file with the geom already imported. You can get it here.

Dear david:
Sorry for the mistake that i made, my version is 17.3R4.
i made some change in holes and saved it again and then the problem was solved.(without changing in unit since my unit is mm, so 1000 looks suitable)
but the only problem that PW had,is not being able to distinct the semicircles and assume them as the circle
And would please explain Why i can`t import NCR like SLDASM and... ? I always have to export the IGS file to be able to use it in PW
However, thank you very much for the time you spend on my problem

I reloaded Assem1.SLDASM you posted earlier with modelsize=1000 and units=mm. The part did NOT load correctly. The small conical piece had badly trimmed faces. See image.

However, after I changed the model size to modelsize=10000 and units=mm, the SLDASM loaded 100% correct!

Unfortunately, some CAD files don't like to load properly at the "suggested" model size and you sometimes must experiment with different model sizes to see if it works.

To help diagnose problem NCR imports, I use the modelsToLayer.glf script that moves each model to its own layer and examines each model for problems. The script is attached.

IMPORTANT: The model size should only be changed on a new, empty file. Once you set the model size and load or create CAD or grid data you should NOT change the model size anymore.
