Hi everyone!

I would like to show you my problem while meshing an airfoil in Pointwise.

My case is evaluating the influence of vortex generators in wind turbines, so I decided to evaluate slices of wing profiles with that devices attached.

When I import the geometry into Pointwise I find many lines that should not be there (maybe yes but I don't want them ) and when I create the connectors they doesn't fit well with the database. I'm trying to do an structured mesh and I cant' make new connectors, ie from the vortex generator to a lateral edge of the airfoil.

I'm really stuck so any help would be appreciated

I'm going to attach some files in order to provide you more information.

Thank you!!

hi,
from your images i think you have a uniform wing, and you should be able to do an extrusion from a 2d airfoil mesh.but about the fitting problem you can easily push your nodes toward leading&trailing edge to see how it works.but in a 3d the sharp trailing edge does not get a 100% cover but its not a problem and it will do the job.
i hope this helps you

I can't do the 2D extrusion as the airfoil has a VG on the suction side.

Finally I managed to fix it creating new connectors manually on the airfoil just where the VG is placed and merging them with the ones of the base of the VG.
Other stuff will be extruding the full domain XD

Glad you fixed your problem.

Any chance you can attach the CAD file you used for this post? I want to look at the incoming data to determine from where the extra curves are coming.

Are you using an igs file for your geometry import? I've seen these lines in my files too when I use igs files. Although it can be a bit confusing, it's not really a big problem. Choose the appropriate lines and assemble your model and ignore the rest of the lines. That's what I do at least and it works for me, usually

Thanks for sending the STEP file.

When I load the file, I get two extra B-spline Curve entities.

Those curves were used to define the ruled surface of the airfoil section. Aside from being an annoyance, these curves do no harm. You can delete or hide them.

Ideally, these curves should be hidden because they are "support" curves. I am looking into a fix.

I suggest you visit https://aeroptimal.com/mesh (you must create an account to use this module), where you can create a full structured airfoil mesh - https://youtu.be/4Opu0zk7gFk . You can export .su2 .msh .foam .vtk
