Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has done any storm simulations using the CFD module where you have both irregular wave generation and varying water levels at the boundary with time. Does anyone know if this possible in the CFD module?

The irregular wave generation is relatively straight forward but I'm not sure how to go about having a variable water level at the wave generation boundary or if this is possible.

Cheers,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

this is not supported at the moment. I am not sure though, whether it would make so much sense in CFD, where the wave simulations are typically happening on relatively short time scales. This is in contrast to the water level, which changes much more gradually. One solution could be to simulate different types of water level scenarios with the corresponding waves. Another possibility is to combine the waves with current.

Thanks for the response Prof. Bihs, we were hoping to simulate waves and water levels for a short storm event on about a day time scale (2D model). We'll have to look into these other options you've proposed.

Cheers,
Patrick
