The refinement done is just cell splitting with a a plane through the cell centre. This will split e.g. a tet into a triangular-base prism and another tet. Next iteration the cell split might be in...

multiDirRefinement actually lo

multiDirRefinement actually loops to do multiple cuts (to e.g. do 2x2x2 refinement) and this might not work (multiple refinements in the same time step).
