There is no concept of internal boundaries....

There is no concept of internal boundaries. Instead create a cyclic baffle. This will not affect the flow but allow you to do 'patch things'.

Use createBaffles to convert a set of internal faces...

You can add 'plate' to your blockMeshDict as any other patch but just leave the list of faces empty. Then when you run blockMesh it will create a patch 'plate' with zero...

The boundary_AfterPlateAdded has an extra patch 'plate' but it has nFaces != 0 so is not a drop-in replacement. Run checkMesh to check.
