Got it. So am I assuming correctly, that since I'm applying the heat flux boundary on the outer pipe wall, I'm just using the lower HTC value for the outside wall.
Moreover the heat flux and the HTC...

Thanks for your reply ghorrocks.
Yeah, so far I understood the method. I just wonder now, whether the HTC I have to use is a combined HTC (so HTC at the inner wall and HTC at the outer wall) or just...

Just wanted to keep you guys updated:
I've used your approach for my simulation and I am now waiting for the test bench to be available, in order to validate my results.

I have one more question....

Well it depends on what ones definition of significant is. At high exhaust gas temperatures I have got a gradient from inner to outer wall temperature of about 7% (measured experimentally).
But...

After taking a break from the project due to exams, I'm focusing on my simulation again.

I have one more question regarding your approach, Stumpy:
Do I guess at the inner wall temperatures and...

Btw, what are your experiences on theoretically calculating HTCs, using Gnielinski correlation, Dittus-Boelter equation etc?

I get your point. My problem is that I have to use the existing mesh, that I've gotten as part of the assignment.
In the mesh, only the fluid domain is modeled (basically like e.g. in the...

As I said, I would like to do it like that, but since I'm doing the simulation as part of a university project, I'm not allowed to... -.-

As for the radiation, the simple approach should be fine...

After discussing some possibilities, I gonna have to try your approach.

Just to be sure I understood it correctly:

Let's say my exhaust gas has a temperature of X.
I simulate the fluid...

Yeah I share your opinion that it would be much easier to simulate the fluid and solid domain in CFX. Unfortunately we've to use the existing meshes which only contain the inlet, outlet and wall.

I do have measurements of the outside temperature of the pipe for a few operating points but I'm not allowed to use them for my simulation. They're just intented to be a validation for my simulation....

Heat transfer simulation of exhaust manifold

Hello everyone,

for a research at university I need to simulate heat transfer / heat loss in an exhaust manifold using CFX / Ansys Mechanical (I'm interested in how much heat is lost in the...
