You tried to open a different model or some tutorial files in PRE, right?! I hope it's not just a problem with your model...

As far as I remember, I didn't have any problems with Ansys 17 on...

as far as I know, ubuntu is not supported by Ansys. You probably have to be happy that you can start it via command line.
You might have better luck with CentOS. I am running CFX 18.1 in CentOS 7...
