I think that pvserver will complain if you try to use the "--use-offscreen-rendering" argument and if the OSMesa feature is not working as intended.

Unless you're planning on getting a considerably powerful graphics card for the master node in the cluster, it does look like you don't have any other choice than to build with OSMesa...
